Leadership Change at Allianz Lanka and Allianz Asia Pacific

Alan Smee is appointed as Chief Executive Officer and Country Manager of Allianz Insurance Lanka from November 1, 2022, subject to local regulatory approvals.

Gany Subramaniam to move to Allianz Asia Pacific as Regional Head of Commercial Sales.

Alan Smee, currently Regional Head of P/C Technical of Allianz Asia Pacific (AZAP) will be appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Country Manager of Allianz Insurance Lanka (Allianz Lanka) with effect from Nov 1, 2022, succeeding Gany Subramaniam.

Alan first joined Allianz Australia in 1999, having held actuarial pricing and research roles in Personal Lines and Workers’ Compensation. After a brief time outside the Group from 2003 to 2006, he rejoined as the Head of Pricing in Global P/C in Allianz SE working on the highly successful Sustainability project. In 2009 he joined Allianz Turkey, where as Head of Retail, then Head of Technical P/C & Health, he played a key role in the successful turnaround of the P/C portfolio. From 2014, he has been working in AZAP strengthening the performance and governance of the P/C business in the region through deep end-to-end value chain understanding, and strong technical capabilities.

Gany will be joining AZAP in Singapore as Regional Head of Commercial Sales on Nov 1, 2022  and will be directly reporting to Anusha Thavarajah, Regional Chief Executive Officer for Allianz Asia Pacific. In this role, he will work closely with the AZAP P/C Technical team under the leadership of Jochen Haug, in collaboration with our P/C operating entities (OEs), the Mid-Corp hub (Asia) and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) to profitably grow and expand Allianz Commercial business in the region.

Gany joined Allianz in May 2019 as CEO of Allianz Lanka and has been pivotal in completing the integration of the acquisition of Janashakthi General Insurance. Under his leadership, Allianz Lanka has had a structural and organizational transformation, vastly improving performance and governance, and placing the OE on a profitable growth path. Previously, he worked for 16 years in AIG where he held various leadership positions which included P&L oversight of South East Asia (SEA) markets. He last held the position of Head of Personal Insurance for Singapore and SEA.
